A huge THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored a birdhouse during CSVW’s 2018 Birdhouse campaign. We hope you will enjoy seeing your feathered friends in the home that you made possible!
This page features photos and available information as it unfolds on CSVW Bird Houses that are known to have birds in residence. If you don’t see your Bird Box pictured here - don't despair! It may be that we have been unable to obtain a photo or that no-birdy was home when we visited the box. Regardless of your sponsored Bird House’s occupancy status - please know that your donation has made a BIG difference for ALL the birds that make CSVW their home and we THANK YOU ALL!
Tree Swallows have particularly benefited from the available boxes in the field behind Teacup Lake and they are thriving! There are several nesting pairs that have been busy gathering insects and sitting on nests.
“Although tree swallows are relatively common and widespread, there are signs that their populations are declining and lack of available breeding habitat is likely a contributing factor. Tree swallows require cavity trees within open fields, meadows, beaver swamps or recent clearcuts for nesting. That’s why it is always a pleasure to see an active tree swallow population every spring at Chapman Sanctuary due to their successful nest box program and diligent work by staff members in keeping open habitat within the site.”
~ Christine Costello, Wildlife Biologist
A Black-capped Chickadee chose this neat little home just behind the Chapman House near the sanctuary bird feeders. A worm delivery was in progress in this scene.
An Eastern Blue Bird was spotted on this adopted box near the tree-line in the CSVW field.
Mystery Nest! This box is full of soft, fluffy material and looks quite cozy! We haven't seen the inhabitant yet so not sure who is living inside - stay tuned!
AS ALWAYS Please be respectful of the birds and nature. Bring binoculars to view the bird boxes and NEVER disturb a nest! THANK YOU
DON'T BE SHY!
